Nicholas Stargardt is a historian and professor at the University of Oxford who specializes in the social and cultural history of Nazi Germany and World War II. He received his Ph.D. from Cambridge University in 1993 and has since written several influential books on the subject, including "The Holocaust: A New History," which won the National Jewish Book Award in 2016. Stargardt's work often focuses on the experiences of ordinary people during the war, rather than just the actions of political leaders and military commanders. He has also served as a consultant on several documentaries and films about the period.
